How to Get a “Snatched” Jawline & Chin: Is It Surgery, Filler, or Both?

Published by Dr. Jay Lucas, MD, a board-certified surgeon with over 20 years of experience.

A strong jawline and defined chin have long been coveted beauty features, but they’ve gotten special attention in the last few years: from TikTok to major news sites, influencers, journalists, and ordinary people alike have recently been obsessed with the trending ideas of the “snatched” jawline and “snatched” chin.

“Snatched,” Defined

Even if “snatched” is a new term to you, at one point or another, you have most likely admired some of the contemporary stars who wield these powerful beauty features — women like Angelina Jolie, Arianna Grande, or Meghan Markle, for example, or men like Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth, or Regé-Jean Page of Bridgerton fame.

Aside from their general fame, talent, and show-stopping good looks, each of these celebrities viewed in profile also embodies the meaning of a “snatched” jawline and chin: a very defined and strong jawline and chin profile with no loose skin or extra fat under the lower jaw or chin.

Achieving the “Snatched” Chin or Jawline

Alas, many of us weren’t born with the genetics or the bone structure for a naturally occurring “snatched” profile. Nevertheless, there are some very effective ways to achieve this sculpted, defined look. Here’s Dr. Lucas’s take on which surgical and non-surgical treatments may help you get that “snatched” chin or jawline…

Surgical Options

Surgical changes to the chin and jawline offer the most permanent solutions. Depending on your facial anatomy, there are a few options:

  • Chin augmentation (genioplasty): If your chin is too small or recessed, a customized chin implant can add definition and transform the profile of your chin, neck, and mandibular angle. On the other hand, if your chin is already too prominent or obtrusive to the shape or balance of your face, Dr. Lucas can perform genioplasty alone to help reduce or reshape its contours. These procedures have a relatively quick recovery time and can go a long way to create a striking profile.
  • Chin or neck liposuction: If your main concern is fatty tissue between the chin and upper neck, a liposuction procedure can target that area specifically to remove the stubborn deposits and give a more contoured, slimmer look. This process is minimally invasive and can make a big impact.

Non-Surgical Options

Looking for less-invasive options? While non-surgical solutions are not permanent, they can still be effective in achieving a contoured, defined chin and jawline. Again, depending on your facial structure, there are a couple of options:

  • Soft-tissue filler: Often, “jowls” (sagging skin around the jawline or chin) are caused by a loss of volume in the face due to aging, which gives the appearance of excess skin. In some cases, an expert on facial aesthetics like Dr. Lucas can strategically apply fillers to restore that lost volume in a way that will tighten the skin around the jaw and chin.
  • Fat grafting: While this procedure can be performed in conjunction with surgical treatments, it can also be performed as a standalone, in-office, non-invasive solution. Like fillers, fat grafting involves restoring volume to targeted areas of the face, but it uses fat cells that have been removed from areas which had excess (i.e., under your chin).
