Chin Up: What a Chin Augmentation Can Do for You

Although not a facial feature often commented on like a person’s eyes, smile, or nose, the chin plays an important role influencing a person’s overall appearance – for better or worse!

Your chin’s placement affects the prominence and symmetry of your jawline, for example, which in turn affects your chin-neck angle and the skin below your jaw. Plus, the prominence of your chin helps shape your smile and your profile too. Pretty important, right?

If you don’t like your chin, your jawline, or your chin-neck angle, there is good news! A skeletal chin augmentation may be the solution you want to achieve symmetry and balance while complementing your other facial features.

What is a Chin Augmentation?

Chin augmentation, also called genioplasty, is a procedure in which Dr. Lucas surgically increases the skeletal prominence of your chin in one of two ways:

  • By implant: inserting a chin implant during augmentation
  • By osteotomy: cutting/moving the chin forward

Both procedures are usually combined with liposuction of the neck, which can help you appear younger and slimmer while better highlighting your new-and-improved chin! Depending on which surgical approach is best for you, the procedure may also involve some fat grafting or bone grafting to best shape and position the chin and give you the most natural-looking results.

Rest assured: with his extensive education (including dental school) and experience in craniofacial and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Lucas will identify the best technique to give you the best results from your chin augmentation!
