Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Knoxville, TN
When you look in the mirror, do you suck in your tummy, wishing it were flat? Are you frustrated that no matter how much you exercise, you cannot get rid of a protruding belly or “pooch”? If so, then a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can give you the sleeker body you crave.
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can be the answer for women who have had one or more children and are unhappy with the contour of their belly. For moms who yearn for their pre-baby body, a tummy tuck can be combined with a breast rejuvenation procedure in a Mommy Makeover.
A tummy tuck / abdominoplasty can also help men or women who have experienced significant weight loss and have hanging, loose skin in their belly area. For those with a lot of excess skin in other areas like the thighs, flank, or buttock, optimal results may be obtained with both with a tummy tuck and a lower body lift.
There are three main goals in every tummy tuck:
- Remove excess skin, yielding a smoother appearance
- Remove excess fat in the belly area as needed through liposuction
- Repair stretched abdominal wall muscles in order to strengthen your core and produce a sleeker, flatter tummy
Board-certified plastic surgeon Jay H. Lucas, M.D. will take the time to discuss your goals and expectations during your initial consultation, and will recommend the right treatment plan for you based on your anatomy.
For example, if your loose skin and fat is confined to the area below your belly button, you may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck (with or without liposuction of the upper abdomen) takes less time, produces less discomfort, and can yield very pleasing results.
After your tummy tuck surgery, you can expect to return to normal activity within about two weeks, and resume strenuous activities and exercise in about six weeks. We will minimize your post-surgical discomfort by providing you with a local anesthetic pain pump which automatically delivers medication for the first four days, a time frame during which most people experience the greatest discomfort. We will also prescribe narcotic pain medication for the first week. If you are a candidate for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., Motrin, Aleve, ibuprofen, etc.), these can be helpful in providing additional relief for muscle aches during the first two weeks.
You will also be more comfortable – and see the best results – by wearing the provided compression garment for the first six weeks.
Within weeks of your surgery, you will notice a big difference in the way your clothes fit, the way you feel, and the confidence you will have wearing a bathing suit or workout clothes that reveal a sleek new you!
