Does Your Nose Align With Your Other Facial Features?
Whether you’re looking at it from a profile or frontal view, your nose assumes a prominent position on your face and significantly affects your overall appearance. In fact, more often than not, the key to an aesthetically-pleasing, natural-looking face is the nose.
The shape of the cartilage, bone, and overlying skin play a big role in your face’s symmetry. Ideally, you want your nose to harmonize with the rest of your face, which is our goal with every Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” at The Lucas Center.
Here’s the thing about noses… when someone looks at your face, it’s something you most likely don’t want to stand out. In order to look as natural as possible, you want it to blend in with the rest of your facial features and not draw too much attention. It may seem like a minor feature, but the truth is symmetry and harmony in facial features look beautiful, and the nose (like the eyes and lips) plays a critical part in that.
Dr. Lucas on Rhinoplasties
“When I evaluate a patient for a possible Rhinoplasty, I start by analyzing the entire structure and look of the face and its features from multiple angles. I do this because someone may have a nose that appears normal in shape and size at first glance, but the size of the rest of their face and jaw region may not align to create a fully symmetrical look. A small lower face and jaw region, for example, typically results in the nose appearing large or out of place,” Dr. Lucas explains.
“In this instance, a chin advancement procedure, called a Genioplasty or chin implant, can help balance the lower face with the nose, avoiding the need for a rhinoplasty. However, if a Rhinoplasty is determined as beneficial to you, an adjunct procedure with the nasal surgery and the chin implant could further enhance your results. These are the details I work with each individual patient on in order to determine the best plan for their unique face and goals.”
Real Results That Create Real Confidence
The key to excellent results for nasal improvement is a firm analysis of the individual’s anatomy. As a Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Lucas and his team understand the importance of creating a concise, patient-specific plan for achieving unique, desired results.
Because cartilage is one of the most prevalent tissues involved in shaping the nose, it can be tricky to work with in any procedure. This tissue poses a lot of internal memory, meaning it can sometimes resist a change in shape and try to return to its original form over time). Essentially, noses can be stubborn.
The secret to ensuring this doesn’t happen isn’t really a secret at all… Choose your plastic surgeon wisely! In a facial feature like the nose, form and function go hand-in-hand and work conjunctively to promote a beautiful, natural look, while also making sure breathing isn’t negatively affected. Some facial features, such as the eyebrows, are purely aesthetic. The nose, like the eyes and overall smile, need to not only appear harmonious with the rest of the face, but they also have to do their jobs. They are critical features that require results-driven care and exact precision in the operating room.
Form and Function: Improving Your Nose AND Your Breathing
At The Lucas Center, Dr. Lucas has performed many procedures that enhance or improve patients’ nasal airways, while simultaneously achieving their desired aesthetic results. From our team to you, we want you to know that we care about how you feel. And while that applies to how you feel about the way you look, it also applies to how you feel on a daily basis.
Poor planning or lack of precision in a Rhinoplasty may result in difficulty breathing, leaving you extremely frustrated day-to-day. This is unacceptable, and is an area of specialized expertise for Dr. Lucas.
“In addition to medical school, I did a Craniofacial fellowship and attended dental school. These added experiences in my life have given me a really unique understanding of the human anatomy, especially when it comes to the face. Some of my favorite procedures to perform are facial surgeries, such as Rhinoplasties, because they allow me to enhance my patient’s beauty, while also helping them with other issues they may be facing, like poor breathing through their nasal passage.”
Feel Beautiful. Feel Confident.
As with any procedure you’re considering, it’s important to realize that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. This applies to someone considering a nose job or any other facial or body plastic surgery procedure.
